The Route
UPDATE – 9 September 2010
After receiving three refusals from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign affairs for my visa we have had to re-plan our route around Iran to reach Pakistan or India. We had two options in mind:
1) Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, China then Pakistan or
2) Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia Oman then ship to India After much research it became apparent option two was out of the question, as we would not be able to get visas for Saudi Arabia, or even drive in the same car together.
Therefore we would have to take option one. With further researching, we found out not only did we have to arrange for a guide for China but also Turkmenisntan, which significantly increased our costs. On the plus side, we will be travelling along the silk road which in its-self is magnificent !!

You guys are making me envious in the most positive way. I have another 9 years before attempting something similar in scope. Please keep us posted so that we can partake in your adventures even if it is only through Facebook. Good luck and god’s speed!
Hi Guys, what a fantastic trip and adventure you are both having. I am in the middle of prepping for a trip along the Old Silk Road – Beijing to Istanbul and then on the London – next year and am especially impressed with your map of your travels and especially where you have followed the exact route on the road. How did you manage to get your actual gps track into the google map?
Good luck with the rest of your travels. Cheers Bob
